The abuse of anabolic steroids by high school, college and other amateur athletes is a dangerous practice. Participants in amateur sports must be made aware of the physical and emotional dangers associated with steroid abuse. The "win at any cost " attitude embraced by some athletes must be redirected and replaced by personal dedication to the sport; a thorough knowledge of the sport's physical demands and requirements; maintenance of a healthy lifestyle; and, an appreciation of the satisfaction that comes from participation.
At the EuroScience Open Forum 2016 in Manchester Professor Arne Ljungqvist, Honorary Member of the International Olympic Committee, Former Vice President of the Word Anti- Doping Agency and Honorary Life President of the International Association of Athletics Federations will discuss doping in Olympic Sports. Due to recent identification of certain steroid metabolites that remain in the body long time after steroid intake (so called "long- term metabolites"), a large number of samples collected at the Beijing and London Games have yielded positive results when analyzed again. This may lead to retroactive sanctions of many athletes, and is a good example of the importance of scientific progress in the fight against doping.
Hepatic Lipidosis Most common form of severe liver disease in cats. Most often seen in obese cats suddenly subjected to dietary deprivation. May also be associated with diabetes mellitus, drug injury and toxicity. Thedisease seems to result from the sudden mobilisation of the bodies fat stores which quickly overwhelms the liver's ability to process the raw fat into useful nutrients. The fat accumulates in the liver rapidly and causes acute liver failure. The end result is a swollen, greasy liver which is fragile and yellow to see. The cats present with complete lack of appetite and many signs of acute liver failure. Treatment is based on the provision of a highly nutritious diet to provide the energy required to run the body, stop the ongoing mobilisation of the fat stores, and drive the liver to decrease the fatty accumulation in the liver. Treatment is difficult and a long process.
